top grossing movies of 2025

Has anyone else been wondering if people are still going to the theaters? It’s no secret that people have been enjoying the “movie watching” experience from the comfort of their own home a lot more lately. Watching movies at home has become more convenient, cheaper and often offers nearly the same experience — especially with evolving distribution strategies from studio.  In 2025, despite the dominance of streaming platforms and on -demand entertainment, theatrical cinema is still thriving. Entertainment Up Close has done some research though, and here’s what we found.

A Minecraft movie built a global fan base into a box office powerhouse grossing approximately $961 million in its 2025 theatrical release. Then there's Lilo and Stitch, which surpassed over $1 billion, fueled by nostalgic economics, a proven theory that audiences emotionally reinvest in familiar stories they grew up with. Premium formats like IMAX, Dolby Cinema, and 3D projection created an immersive sensory experience impossible to replicate at home. And then Zootopia 2 roared past $1.8 billion driven by family co -viewing behavior. That means everybody wanted to see the movie together! And finally, there's Ne Zha 2. Ne Zha 2, crossing an extraordinary $2 billion worldwide, demonstrating the power of international markets and event -level cinema. Even legacy franchises continue to dominate — Jurassic Park and its ongoing saga remind us how decades-spanning storytelling can keep audiences returning to theaters generation after generation.

So, why is it in the age of streaming audiences still find their way to the theaters? Because it’s simple, really: there’s nothing quite like the collective gasp, the laughter, the tension, the triumph, in a room full of strangers who suddenly feel like friends. These titles stand as the top grossing movies, and there’s no reason to stop helping them thrive in the years to come. After all, our continued support fuels what we truly love: the magic of moving going and the shared culture it creates, So yes people, make it a thing again!

Grab that popcorn and candy, enjoy yourselves, and let’s keep this culture alive!
